Space heaters and soft insulation: useful deals, no nonsense

At the first chilly night, “heat for less” ads explode. Some accessories help; others sell anxiety.

Free / cheap first

Door sweeps, curtains at night, thermostat down one degree, a sweater. Cheaper than a forgotten heater left on.

Fix obvious drafts before buying a gadget.

When a space heater makes sense

Seldom-used room, WFH in a cold office, waiting on furnace repair. Pick a model with thermostat and tip-over protection.

Estimate electricity cost—not only shelf price.

Target price and season

Price waves continue into November. If it’s not urgent, note the model + a ceiling.

On PromoSimple, compare the same wattage / type (ceramic, mica, etc.), not “winter” packaging.

Avoid

Miracle “−40% on your hydro bill” claims without context. Uncertified gadgets / damaged-cord shady open-box.

Three poorly placed mini-heaters > one used well.

Blankets and textiles

Throws, fleece sheets: often better $/comfort than a second heater. Thrift or end-of-line OK.

Wash per label; fabric that pills in two weeks wasn’t a deal.

Free moves, safe heater, target price. PromoSimple filters ads; your power bill validates the choice.
