Online vs in-store prices: how to compare for real

The app says $79.99, the shelf $99.99—or the reverse. It isn’t always a scam. It’s often two stocks, two promos, two policies. Here’s how to compare without a wasted trip.

Same SKU, same postal code

Switch the store in the app/site before you cry foul. A “national” price isn’t your branch’s price.

The paper flyer is often the store’s contract for the period. The web can be another channel (marketplace, third-party seller).

Add fees and timing

Delivery, free-ship threshold, pickup, delay. Web cheaper by $8 + $12 fees loses. A “pricier” store with the item in hand today can win.

Web out-of-stock / store in-stock (and the reverse) is common. Confirm before you drive.

Price-match policy

Some banners match the web; others don’t. Ask an employee for the online price for THIS store, receipt in hand.

Keep a dated screenshot. Without proof, matching becomes a maybe at the till.

Open-box, end-of-line, floor vs web SKU

A low store price may be a floor model. Fair if labelled. Not comparable to web new.

Conversely, a “great” web price may be a third-party seller. Read the seller, not just the brand photo.

PromoSimple in this pairing

Flyers frame the store week. The web is a second quote. The tool shows the banner; SKU + local stock close the file.

If the gap is thin, pick the simpler channel (returns, warranty, time).

SKU + store + fees + stock. Four filters. PromoSimple compares banner deals; the channel (web or aisle) is decided after—not from a screenshot out of context.
